Backtrack is based off WHAX, in fact I don't think WHAX is even in development anymore. I think BT took it over completely.

Im using BT4 on my second hard drive so i guess the "dumb" comment is a bit outta the question! I was wondering about stability and preformance of the 2 OS's! I know that BT has been under devopment and is still maintained.. But what about WHAX, i went to distrowatch and theyre telling me that they still partically maintain the WHAX distro!

DistroWatch says it's been discontinued, and their homepage is no more. Also, their last release was in 2005.
For penetration testing I would just use any Linux OS. I guess if BackTrack has some of the stuff you need built in then you should use that.

Gremlin arent you on hackforums as well? I think i saw your name in there somewhere :| But, for the backtrack 4, that's sketchy, id suggest backtrack 3 only because there still updating it. And backtrack 4 is there new one. Backtrack 3 is more secure and doesnt have alot of vulnabilities as backtrack 4. Remember its pre released so its gunna be in the "works" testing is still going on with it. So just spend an hour downloading backtrack 3, lol!

Why the hell is this still being brought up? I have come to the conclusion that Backtrack 4 Final is more secure and stable. I prefer Backtrack 4 Final over any other OS due to the fact that its easy to use and maintain....This Thread can be closed Mods
