Default Uploading a shell?

Hi,
To date I have hack many site and got access to many admin control panels but when trying to upload a shell I just can't seem to get it right.
Some methods I have tried are nullbyte .php%00.jpg and .php.jpg but none seem to work on any of the sites admin panels. What am I doing wrong?

It appears that you don't know what you're doing.

Learn about PHP and how to run a server, then learn what a null byte is and what it does.

Are you using a admin control panel to upload the shell and is it a known shell? If it is then it could be that the shell is being detected when you upload it and either not accepted or having the permissions changed so that the web server can't access it.
