Distributed Computing
The EliteHackers.info team is EliteHackers.info's own distributed computing team. In short this means that we have joined forces with a lot of members from the EliteHackers.info forum to compete in distributed computing projects. This way we're not only working on a better world but we can also beat other sites and teams in the holy stats.
Distributed computing is a term to describe thousands of computers on a network like the Internet using their abilities to form a supercomputer. There are two main reasons to join the EliteHackers.info team: idealism and teamplay. Some projects are used for scientific purposes, for instance cancer or AIDS research and even counter bioterrorism projects.
To join our team you install a client on your PC. The client does not need a 24/7 Internet connection, it can go up to three months without Internet access (even then it only sends about 100kb). This client uses your unused (idle) CPU cycles for the team cause. Idle time is the difference between your processor (CPU) running at 100% and the amount you are actually using. When you're using Word you're probably using 8%, the other 92% will be used for the cause. If you are rendering graphics at 100% CPU usage at a certain time, the client will not actively be running. There is no hassle at all!
